Being a caregiver is not easy. When your are the primary caregiver for your loved one it can become exhausting, overwhelming and can cause stressed caregivers to experience fatigue, anxiety and depression. Sometimes primary caregivers forget all about themselves when they're day to day revolves around caring for their aging loved one. What should you look for?


Common warning signs of caregiver burnout

  • Lack of energy

  • A feeling of hopelessness

  • Weight loss or weight gain

  • Neglecting your own physical and emotional needs

  • Feeling like caregiving is controlling your life

Sometimes caregivers can forget all about themselves especially when your day to day revolves around caring for your aging loved one.But how can you prevent caregiver burnout?


Common tips on preventing caregiver burnout

  • Ask for help!, asking for help doesn't mean you're a bad caregiver, this simply means you can't do it alone. Which no one can!

  • Get up 15 minutes earlier or set aside time just for you. Some coffee or tea while journaling, praying, reading a book or bible scriptures. Whatever it is do it!

  • Take care of yourself, Excerise, eat well, and get enough of sleep. Don't set yourself aside because you're too busy.

  • Need a break, check into a home care agency that provides respite care when you need it.

  • Take vacations or mini getaways often

You're not in this alone! you have support and there are shortcuts and strategies for recognizing your priorities and to make you a happier person. This will help you to be a better caregiver.
